CHCS Awarded Mini Grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas

Community HealthCare System (CHCS) has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Healthy Kansas Hospitals (HKH) mini-grant program supported by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS).

The grant program assists Kansas Hospital Association member hospitals’ work to improve the health of their communities.   These grant funds support staff, patients, and the community promoting active living, healthy living, and tobacco preventions.

These particular grant funds will be used to build a new garden area at St. Marys Manor. According to Shannon Heim, Director of Senior Services at CHCS, “This new garden will promote our focus on active lifestyles, healthy foods, and outdoor spaces for quality interaction.

“The grant also has a matching funds requirement and St. Marys Manor has been the past recipient of memorial funds designated for a garden area.  This grant is a perfect fit.  The garden will be a welcomed addition to our campus.”

“This garden will help residents enjoy active living and healthy foods.  It will also enhance our resident and teammate interaction,” said Kerry Herbine, Chief Executive Officer for CHCS. “Local youth will also enjoy volunteer opportunities as they can help maintain the garden, fostering generational relationships.  This garden will become the heart of St. Marys Manor.”
