CHCS installs EKG in Onaga thanks to grant funding

CHCS installs EKG in Onaga thanks to grant funding

Community HealthCare System will be adding an Electrocardiogram, or EKG, at its Onaga Outpatient Specialty Clinic thanks to grant funding from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment, ensuring quick, accurate, and non-invasive diagnostics is critical. One essential piece of equipment that fulfills these needs is the EKG. An EKG records the electrical activity of the heart, providing healthcare professionals with valuable insights into cardiac health.

“We are very fortunate to be able to offer quality cardiac care to patients in our rural communities. Our visiting Cardiologist consistently have robust clinics, making the addition of an EKG invaluable.  We are grateful for the support,” said Merica Surdez, CHCS, Chief of Provider and Clinic Operations.

Surdez noted that one of the most crucial benefits of having an EKG machine is its ability to detect heart conditions early. An EKG machine can identify irregular heartbeats, arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other cardiac abnormalities, sometimes even before symptoms appear. This early detection allows for timely treatment and can potentially save lives.

“We are grateful to Prairie Band Potawatomie Nation for the $7,000 grant towards the purchase of an EKG for the Onaga Clinic,” said Michael Bomberger, CHCS director of business development and special projects.
